Top list of places NOT to stay.........

1.  the winner is:        Fairplay Hotel, 500 main street (Hwy 9), Fairplay, Colorado 80440

2007 we stayed at this old hotel.  I don't remember the room number, but it was the room above the bar/kitchen, northeast corner of the building.  The room location in itself did not contribute to this hotel being the most undesirable motel/hotel on our list.  (1) In addition to being an old worn out bed that should have went to the dump years ago, this place is a fire marshall's nightmare.  (2) I found one of the electrical outlet covers in the dresser.  Sure enough, one outlet was missing the cover.  (3)  The television had no reception, because the cable box would not turn on.  I followed the cord to the outlet, and found a 'splice' in the cord.  The cable box cord was a 3 wire grounded cord.  about 8 inches from the end, the cord had been cut and a 2 wire cord had been spliced to it so it would plug into the old 2 wire system of the hotel.  They had simply twisted the two power wires together by hand and taped them with electrical wire.  This was obvious because the tape did not completely cover the bare wires.  Bare wire were sticking out!  A parents nightmare!  (4)  This was a corner room.  The windows to the East would open, but no screens.  The windows to the North would not open.  They overlooked the roof of the bar, and were secured closed, probably so no one could climb out on the roof.  (5) the room entry door would not lock.  (6) There was no hotel personnel anywhere to be seen in the morning to report the issues.  I was visiting with a fellow patron in the morning and he commented that, "this used to be a really nice place to stay, but is has really gone to HELL!"  He was really upset.

2.  a close runner up:   The Best Western Townsman Inn, 212 NE Hwy 54, Guyman, Oklahoma 73949
2006 we stayed at this motel.  Probably the most sleepless night I ever spent in a motel.  (1) There was a veterinary clinic just behind the motel, close to our room.  They board dogs outside.  They barked all night long.  (2) They was a window above the entry door.  I discovered that there was no glass, only a very, very, VERY dirty screen.  I covered it with a towel and wedged it back in, but no help.  What a dump!

3.  the entire town:   Scott City Kansas (not the town, just all motels)
2007   DO NOT STOP AT ANY MOTEL!     AVOID THEM ALL!     KEEP ON ROLLING!  There is NO place that is not a dump!

4.  room from HELL one:  room 136,  Comfort Inn, 2225 S. range Ave, Colby Kansas 67701
June 28, 2008      I was in room 136, on the porcelain throne, meditating on the meaning of life, when water started coming out of the vent above me and landed on my head.  Who knows what it was, or where it had been, but I needed a shower.  But all of the towels stored on the rack above the porcelain throne got the water as well.  I called the front desk and requested some fresh towels.  They offered to move me, but I need an immediate shower, and my bride was already asleep.  They said they would notify housekeeping to bring me some towels.  Twenty minutes later I called again.  She said she had been busy, and again offered to move me.  I explained that my wife was asleep, and just bring me some towels.  Ten minutes later I got dressed and went to the front desk.  She was checking in a guest so I waited.  About five minutes later someone from housekeeping ask if I was the guest in room 136 and said that they had delivered towels to my room and asked what had happened.  I explained again.
The next morning when I was checking out I ask if there was any adjustment to my bill.  The desk clerk on duty said no, and ask if there was a problem.  I explained what happened and she offered to take $5 off my bill.  I told her "don't bother".

5.  room from HELL two:  room 121, La Quinta Inn and Suites, 1450 Cascade Ave, Loveland Colorado 80538
June 29, 2008    This is a very, new motel.  The only problem is that at 4:30 I was awakened by what I thought was someone in the next room stomping around in their bathtub.  This went on and on, on and on, and never quit.  Finally at about 6:30 am it did quit.  Later I found out that it was not someone in the bathtub.  Room 121 backs up to the breakfast preparation room.  The sink is on the other side of the wall that backs up to room 121 at the head of the bed.  What we were hearing was pot and pans being washed in the stainless steal sink.  They should NEVER rent this room!
