The truth about real cruise control is here.  REAL cruise control for Softails is hard to find.  Don't be fooled by others advertising their product as cruise control when in fact most are just plain throttle locks, either manual or electronic.  If you want to lock your throttle in a fixed position, just use the thumbscrew.  If you want a REAL cruise control that adjust your throttle to changing conditions (such as uphill or downhill) get a Cruisemount® kit and add the Road King cruise control on your Softail. Here is what the Harley Davidson operator manual says about cruise control: "The cruise control is designed to be safely operated with minimum movement by the rider and all rider control actions are natural and easy.  The rider always over-rides and controls the system."
